Netherlands | 23 September 2025 – Value Maritime, a Dutch clean-tech innovator, has signed a commercial representation agreement with Union Tech Co. Ltd., appointing the South Korean firm as its official technical consultant and agent in the region. Rotterdam, This strategic move aims to expand Value Maritime’s global footprint and accelerate the maritime industry’s transition to cleaner operations.
Under the agreement, Union Tech will act as the exclusive representative of Value Maritime’s full portfolio of sustainable maritime technologies across South Korea’s robust shipbuilding industry. This includes the company’s flagship Filtree System – a hybrid solution combining a SOx scrubber and Onboard Carbon Capture System (OCCS) – along with complementary components, engineering services, and technical support.

Strategic Partnership Targeting Emission Reduction and Compliance
As International Maritime Organization (IMO) greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets intensify and global carbon pricing mechanisms take hold, South Korea’s shipbuilding sector is rapidly shifting toward low-emission and future-proof solutions. Value Maritime’s partnership with Union Tech is designed to meet this rising demand for cost-effective, scalable, and compliant environmental technologies.
“As representatives of Value Maritime in South Korea, Union Tech is playing a critical role not only in direct sales to shipowners but also in navigating the complex shipyard collaboration processes to successfully integrate our technologies into both newbuild and retrofit projects,” said Frédéric Le Moullec, Commercial Manager at Value Maritime. “Our SOx Scrubber and Carbon Capture solution is ideally suited for medium-sized vessels being built in South Korea. Focusing on shipyards that specialize in these vessel classes is a strategic priority, and we welcome Union Tech’s support in this mission.”
Union Tech will leverage its deep-rooted connections with domestic shipyards and shipowners to offer seamless integration of Value Maritime’s technology into vessel designs. Their responsibilities range from contract negotiation and technical consulting to project execution and after-sales service.
“Union Tech has built a strong network across South Korean shipbuilders and shipyards, enabling us to handle both domestic and international orders,” said Chaesung Lim, Managing Director of Union Tech. “From concept to delivery, we ensure precision, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. With Value Maritime’s innovative solutions, we’re well-positioned to deliver on South Korea’s decarbonization goals and secure long-term value for clients.”
Value Maritime’s Filtree System: Clean Air, Clean Water, and CO₂ Capture
Value Maritime’s Filtree System is a next-generation Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS) designed specifically for small to medium-sized vessels. It goes far beyond conventional scrubbers by not only removing sulphur oxides (SOx) but also filtering out 99% of particulate matter (PM) and capturing a significant portion of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions.
Built on patented rotating packed bed technology, the Filtree is a compact, plug-and-play solution that installs in under 10 days without drydocking. Available in eight standardised sizes (from 3.0 MW to 15.0 MW engines), the system also includes a wash water filtration unit, ensuring compliance with environmental standards by neutralising pH and removing oil residues from water discharge.
A major differentiator is the Filtree’s integrated CO₂ Capture Module, which stores captured CO₂ in a reusable CO₂ Battery. This innovative feature enables circular carbon use—offloading CO₂ at port for reuse in sectors like agriculture.
Compatible with future fuels like LNG, methanol, and e-methane, the system achieves an expected CO₂ capture rate of up to 80%. On top of environmental benefits, the Filtree allows operators to continue using high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) instead of more expensive low-sulphur alternatives—reducing fuel costs while meeting IMO regulations, including the 0.1% sulphur cap in Emission Control Areas (ECAs). Value Maritime also offers flexible financing options, including buy, lease, or fuel-savings-based agreements to make adoption easy and scalable.
South Korea’s Pivotal Role in the Future of Sustainable Shipbuilding
As one of the world’s top shipbuilding nations, South Korea plays a critical role in shaping the global maritime industry’s transition to cleaner technologies. Home to major shipyards like Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, the country serves as a global hub for innovative vessel design, advanced engineering, and now, green retrofitting.
With increasing regulatory pressure from the IMO and growing carbon pricing policies worldwide, Korean shipbuilders are at the forefront of integrating eco-friendly systems such as scrubbers, OCCS, and alternative propulsion technologies into both newbuild and retrofit projects. The country’s leadership in this space makes it an ideal launchpad for the adoption of technologies like Value Maritime’s Filtree System, aligning with national and global goals for decarbonisation and maritime sustainability.
