In a major step toward advancing sustainable maritime operations, PO/Marine, the maritime brand of Petrol Ofisi Group, has successfully commissioned Türkiye’s first self-sustaining domestic bunker barge. The project, realized in collaboration with Hon Denizcilik and ALLPRO Enerji, marks a significant innovation in energy efficiency within the national shipping and bunkering sectors.

A Breakthrough in Maritime Energy Efficiency
The new barge is equipped with a battery storage system that collects excess energy produced by the generator while the vessel is in motion. Once the ship enters a stationary or waiting position, this stored energy can be used to power operations for a minimum of five hours, entirely independent of the generator.
This design dramatically reduces generator run-time, thereby lowering fuel consumption, minimizing emissions, and optimizing energy usage — all while maintaining operational efficiency and reliability.
Aydın Yıldız, Head of Marine Sales at Petrol Ofisi Group, shared his thoughts on the project:
“We are thrilled to realize this exemplary project. Our goal here is to provide tangible benefits for sustainable development by improving energy efficiency and promoting responsible fuel consumption in the maritime industry. We are excited to collaborate with our stakeholders in carrying out holistic and innovative processes with a focus on energy transformation, while undertaking growth-oriented projects.”
PO/Marine’s Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
The launch of this energy-efficient barge underscores PO/Marine’s commitment to driving sustainability through innovation. The company has taken a leadership role in pioneering responsible marine fuel practices, supporting the maritime sector’s transition toward lower-carbon and cleaner energy solutions.
This initiative aligns with global efforts to reduce maritime emissions, increase operational efficiency, and explore alternative energy systems in shipping — all while setting a new benchmark for domestic marine operations in Türkiye.
Türkiye’s Leading Marine Fuel Supplier
PO/Marine continues to lead Türkiye’s marine fuel market with an annual supply exceeding 1 million metric tons. The company provides fueling services to domestic and international vessels across all Turkish ports, including the Bosphorus Strait, a major corridor for global maritime trade.
PO/Marine’s operational footprint spans:
- 7 marine terminals
- 1 floating station
- 10 marina stations
- The largest dealer and delivery network for both duty-paid and SCT-free sales in Türkiye
Its extensive logistical infrastructure and product diversity position PO/Marine as a key supplier along the Mediterranean, Aegean, and Black Sea coastlines.
Each year, PO/Marine serves:
- 30,000 ships in the domestic market
