Ocean Network Express vessel Singapore

Singapore | June 17, 2025 – Ocean Network Express (ONE) has officially named the ONE Singapore, the sixth vessel in a massive 20-ship series designed to lead the carrier’s transition to zero-emission fuels. The naming ceremony was held on June 17, 2025, at the Hiroshima Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Japan.

The 13,900 TEU vessel is part of a US$20 billion expansion program aimed at modernizing ONE’s fleet with “future-proof” tonnage. While the ship will initially run on conventional marine fuel, its design is fully prepared for conversion to Methanol or Ammonia propulsion, featuring an Approval in Principle (AiP) from Lloyd’s Register (LR).

Technical Specifications & Efficiency Upgrades

Built by Japan’s Nihon Shipyard (a joint venture between Imabari and Japan Marine United), the ONE Singapore features several aerodynamic and hydrodynamic enhancements to reduce its carbon footprint:

  • Propulsion: Equipped with a MAN B&W 7G95ME-C10.6 main engine, optimized for high efficiency.
  • Emissions Control: Includes a hybrid Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS) to comply with SOx limits and an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system to ensure NOx compliance.
  • Hydrodynamics: The hull design incorporates a twist rudder and low-friction hull paint, alongside a distinctive bow wind cover to reduce air resistance.
  • Energy Efficiency: These technologies allow the vessel to achieve an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) approximately 60% lower than current baseline requirements.
  • Cargo Capacity: 13,932 TEU total capacity, featuring four lashing bridges and specialized plugs for a high volume of refrigerated containers.
Strategic Deployment

The ONE Singapore carries the name of the company’s global headquarters city, emphasizing its role as a “flagship” for the carrier’s Singapore-based operations. The vessel is expected to be deployed on high-demand trade lanes, specifically serving the Asia-Latin America or Trans-Pacific routes, where its high reefer capacity is a major commercial asset.

Today’s naming of ONE Singapore signifies further progress in our fleet expansion strategy,” said Jeremy Nixon, CEO of ONE.This vessel symbolizes our strong connection to Singapore’s vibrant maritime ecosystem and our commitment to its position as a leading global maritime center.”

The Roadmap to 20 Ships

The ONE Singapore follows sister ships like the ONE Sparkle, ONE Sapphire, and ONE Sincerity. By 2026, ONE expects to have all 20 of these 13,900 TEU ammonia/methanol-ready vessels in service. Additionally, the company has 12 larger 13,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel vessels on order in China, scheduled for delivery starting in 2027.
