A Strategic Partnership for Education
The lounge is the result of a naming rights agreement that spans from December 1, 2025, to November 30, 2028. By securing this 160-square-meter space, NYK aims to provide a modern, supportive environment for students pursuing careers in the shipping industry.
Key Details of the Agreement:
- Facility: First Floor Lounge, Etchujima Hall (Etchujima Campus).
- Total Floor Area: 160 m².
- Partnership Term: 3 years (2025–2028).
- Objective: To enhance the educational and research environment while making the NYK Group more accessible to the university’s talent pool.
Deep Roots in Maritime Excellence
The choice of the Etchujima Campus is deeply symbolic. TUMSAT’s Faculty of Marine Engineering traces its origins back to the Mitsubishi Mercantile Marine School, founded in 1875, widely regarded as the birthplace of maritime education for the NYK Group.
Over the decades, graduates from the university have formed the backbone of NYK’s workforce. This latest initiative follows a recent major donation by NYK to support the faculty’s 150th Anniversary Project, which includes upgrading training facilities, student dormitories, and scholarship programs.
