Nereida Energy Battery Systems Ferry Vessels

Bergen, Norway | December 18, 2025 – Nereida Energy has secured its first commercial contract, marking a major milestone for the company with the delivery of advanced maritime battery systems totaling 17 MWh. The contract has been awarded by Frydenbø Elmarin and will support the electrification of two ferries owned by Vestlandske Trafikk, scheduled to begin zero-emission operations in the Geirangerfjord from summer 2026.

Electrification of Ferries in a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Geirangerfjord is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and from January 2026, strict regulations requiring zero-emission vessels will apply to maritime operations in the area. The electrification of the two Vestlandske Trafikk ferries represents a critical step in meeting these regulatory requirements while contributing to the long-term preservation of the fjord’s unique natural environment.

This project underscores the growing pace of decarbonization within Norway’s domestic ferry sector and highlights the role of battery-electric solutions in environmentally sensitive waterways.

Battery System Scope and Technical Details

Under the contract, Nereida Energy will deliver two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery systems with a combined capacity of 17 MWh:

  • 12.7 MWh battery system to be installed onboard MF Hjørungavåg
  • 4.4 MWh battery system to be installed onboard MF Jotunheim

Both vessels are currently undergoing conversion to fully electric propulsion and will operate exclusively on battery power once deployed in the Geirangerfjord.

Nereida Energy: First Contract Marks Market Entry

Geir Bjørkeli, CEO of Nereida Energy, described the agreement as a defining moment for the company:
