Golden Island Pte Ltd, a key player in Singapore’s bunkering sector, has selected Ofiniti, a leading provider of digital solutions for the maritime fuel sector, as its digital partner as it prepares to expand its fleet and begin methanol bunkering operations. The partnership highlights the growing industry momentum toward low-carbon fuels and digital transparency in the bunker supply chain.
According to the official announcement, Golden Island will adopt Ofiniti’s digital platform across its new and existing vessels, including the implementation of electronic Bunker Delivery Notes (e-BDNs) based on the Singapore Technical Reference TR 129. The rollout will include four new chemical tankers currently on order, along with the soon-to-be-commissioned Golden Antares.

Methanol: Strategic Expansion with Digital Integration
“Launching our methanol bunkering operations is a major milestone, not just for Golden Island, but for Singapore’s journey toward multi-fuel readiness,” said Kenny Yap Song Jin, who leads Low Carbon Solutions at Golden Island. “By combining innovative low-carbon fuels with digital transparency, we set a new benchmark for safe, efficient, and sustainable marine fuel delivery.”
The development is seen as a key part of Singapore’s broader strategy to position itself as a global leader in multi-fuel marine energy solutions, with methanol increasingly seen as a viable option in the transition toward decarbonised shipping.
Ofiniti: Supporting Industry Through Fuel Transitions
Ofiniti, known for supporting fuel suppliers through transitions from conventional marine fuels to LNG, biofuels, hydrogen, and now methanol, will provide the digital infrastructure for Golden Island’s operations. This includes enabling traceability, enhancing compliance, and improving operational efficiency.
“I’m proud to welcome Golden Island to Ofiniti’s platforms,” said Tue Nielsen, CEO of Ofiniti. “Their move signals a strong trust in our ability to support next-generation operations and reflects a broader shift in the market toward digital solutions that are purpose-built for maritime fuels.”
Nielsen noted that the company’s approach is grounded in “building resilience into the way we are doing business,” with a focus on transparency and customer-centric innovation.
Digitalisation and Decarbonisation Drive Market Evolution
The partnership illustrates the dual trends shaping the future of the bunkering industry: the adoption of alternative fuels and the increasing demand for digital bunkering solutions that enable compliance, efficiency, and trust in complex supply chains.
For industry observers, Golden Island’s move is another indication of the readiness among regional suppliers to invest in methanol bunkering capabilities, while also aligning with Singapore’s long-term objectives for maritime energy transition.
As this development unfolds, stakeholders across the sector will be watching closely to assess the practical impacts of methanol adoption and the role of digital platforms in supporting a sustainable and efficient bunker supply model.
Understanding Digital Bunkering and eBDNs
Digital bunkering marks a significant evolution in the way marine fuel transactions are conducted. By replacing traditional paper-based workflows with automated digital systems, it enhances the speed, efficiency, and transparency of bunker operations. Real-time data exchange, streamlined documentation, and improved traceability are among its key advantages.
Central to this digital shift is the Electronic Bunker Delivery Note (eBDN)—a secure digital record of each bunker delivery. Unlike paper-based BDNs, eBDNs offer instant access, tamper-resistant verification, and seamless sharing across all relevant parties, including suppliers, vessel operators, and regulatory authorities. This not only reduces administrative overhead but also supports compliance and operational resilience.
