FueLNG Singapore 500 STS LNG Bunkering Milestone

August 18, 2025 | Singapore — In a landmark achievement that cements Singapore’s position as a global leader in LNG bunkering, FueLNG has successfully completed its 500th ship-to-ship (STS) LNG bunkering operation. This milestone, achieved on August 16, 2025, underscores FueLNG’s pivotal role in enabling the maritime energy transition through safe, efficient, and reliable bunkering operations.

The 500th operation was performed by the LNG bunkering vessel FueLNG Bellina, which supplied LNG to the AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY, an advanced LNG-fueled Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) operated by Japanese shipping major Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K-Line).

This achievement reflects not only operational excellence but also the strength of FueLNG’s partnerships across the marine energy value chain.

Mr. Saunak Rai, General Manager of FueLNG Private Limited, shared:

“This 500th milestone reflects the firm dedication, skill, and resilience of our seafarers aboard FueLNG Bellina and FueLNG Venosa, supported by the outstanding technical teams at Korea Line and K-Line. It is also a testament to the trust our customers place in us, and to the strong collaboration between Shell, MPA, SLNG, Seatrium, and the wider FueLNG team. We are deeply grateful to everyone who made these 500 safe, efficient, and high-quality LNG bunkering operations possible. As we look ahead, our commitment is clear — to scale new heights together and continue advancing the global maritime energy transition.”

AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY: A Vessel of the Future

The AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY, with a capacity of 7,000 vehicles, represents a new generation of LNG-powered car carriers. Fueled by LNG, the vessel significantly reduces sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions compared to conventional marine fuels.

The collaboration between FueLNG and K-Line reflects growing alignment between innovative shipowners and bunkering providers working together to meet international climate goals and drive low-emission shipping.

LNG Bunkering in Singapore Sees Record Growth

FueLNG’s milestone comes amid surging LNG bunkering volumes in Singapore. In 2024, LNG bunker sales in Singapore grew by 318.92%, soaring from 111,000 tonnes in 2023 to 464,000 tonnes. This remarkable growth underscores Singapore’s leadership in building a robust LNG bunkering ecosystem and advancing the use of cleaner fuels in global shipping.

With support from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore has developed the infrastructure, regulatory clarity, and operational readiness needed to support a diverse range of LNG-fueled vessels through both truck-to-ship and ship-to-ship transfers.

FueLNG’s Bellina, Singapore’s first LNG bunkering vessel, has been at the forefront of this evolution, executing hundreds of safe and efficient transfers to vessels across different sectors, including container ships, car carriers, and tankers.

Global LNG Bunkering: Scaling with Fleet Expansion

FueLNG’s achievement is part of a wider global trend as the shipping industry rapidly adopts LNG as a transitional marine fuel.

As of mid-2025, the global LNG-fueled fleet includes 590 ships in operation, with 564 more on order, according to DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight platform. These include some of the largest dual-fuel container vessels ever built, showcasing LNG’s capability to power long-haul, high-capacity shipping while meeting strict emissions standards.

Infrastructure growth is keeping pace:

  • 60 LNG bunkering vessels are in service (up from just 1 in 2010)
  • 13 additional bunkering ships are under construction
  • 185 ports worldwide currently offer LNG bunkering

LNG-fueled vessels now represent nearly 6% of global fleet capacity by deadweight tonnage, and approximately one-third of all new ship orders are dual-fuel LNG capable.

FueLNG’s 500th STS operation reflects the industry’s increasing confidence in LNG’s viability and highlights how regional excellence in bunkering operations supports the global decarbonization journey.
