CMB Tech invests in Ammonia supply chain

Antwerp, Belgium | December 16, 2025 – CMB.TECH, a world-leading, diversified, and future-proof maritime group, has announced a strategic investment in China’s green ammonia sector, signaling a major step in the company’s maritime decarbonization strategy.

The company has signed an offtake agreement with CEEC Hydrogen Energy (“CEEC”) for green ammonia produced in Jilin Province and will acquire a minority stake in Jiangsu Andefu Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (“Andefu”), one of China’s largest ammonia supply chain companies.

Green Ammonia from CEEC Songyuan

Under the agreement, CMB.TECH will purchase renewable ammonia produced by the CEEC Songyuan project, which has a first-phase capacity of approximately 158,000 tonnes per year. Construction was completed in September 2025, with commercial operations scheduled for January 2026.

The project is primarily powered by off-grid renewable energy supported by battery and hydrogen buffer storage. It recently achieved ISCC EU RFNBO certification on December 2, 2025, following an audit by Bureau Veritas.

Partnership with Andefu

CMB.TECH’s minority investment in Andefu establishes an industrial partnership to support maritime decarbonization and develop a green ammonia supply infrastructure.

Andefu is advancing key infrastructure projects:

  • A 49,000 m³ low-temperature ammonia storage tank in Nanjing, scheduled for commissioning in Q1 2026, providing critical hub capacity for ammonia distribution.
  • An ammonia storage terminal in Panjin, expected in the second half of 2027, which will enhance China’s large-scale green ammonia logistics and supply capabilities.
  • Ship-to-ship (STS) ammonia bunkering operations, targeting commercial deployment in 2026, to support the emerging ammonia-fuelled shipping fleet.
CMB.TECH’s Ammonia-Powered Fleet

In 2026, CMB.TECH will take delivery of 11 ammonia-powered vessels: ten Newcastlemax bulkers (210,000 dwt) built at Qingdao Beihai Shipyard, and one 1,400 TEU container vessel from China Merchants Industry Weihai.

The vessels will feature dual-fuel diesel-ammonia main engines, carrying ammonia as a fuel onboard, enabling dual-fuel operation for propulsion and auxiliary power between ports.

This investment reinforces CMB.TECH’s position as a pioneer in green ammonia shipping, ensuring access to secure, certified, and scalable fuel supply to power the next generation of decarbonized vessels.
