Anemoi Marine Technologies Programe Director

London, United Kingdom | December 18, 2025 – Anemoi Marine Technologies, a global leader in Rotor Sail innovation, has announced the appointment of Andrew Starforth as Programme Director. The move signals a major ramp-up in the company’s delivery capacity as the maritime industry’s demand for wind-assisted propulsion systems (WASP) reaches a fever pitch.

Starforth joins Anemoi at a critical juncture. With over 25 years of engineering leadership, including nearly a decade at the helm of senior marine technology roles in China, his appointment is a direct response to the accelerating order pipelines for Rotor Sail retrofits and newbuild integrations.

Strengthening the China Connection

A key pillar of Anemoi’s strategy is its operational footprint in China. Starforth’s established network, which includes ties to the UK Commissioner’s Office in China, is expected to streamline collaboration with major shipyards and enhance the speed of project execution.

I am pleased to join Anemoi at a pivotal stage in the company’s growth,” said Andrew Starforth. “With the momentum building around wind-assisted propulsion, I look forward to supporting the delivery of Anemoi’s global projects and contributing to the company’s continued success.

CEO Perspective: Scaling for a Decarbonized Future

The appointment comes just days after Anemoi confirmed a significant deal with Union Maritime to install Rotor Sails on two newbuild 18,500 DWT chemical tankers. CEO Clare Urmston highlighted that Starforth’s expertise is exactly what the company needs to bridge the gap between high-level engineering and global scale.

Andrew’s extensive experience in leading and delivering programmes in maritime operations will be instrumental as we scale the business,” said Clare Urmston. “He already has deep knowledge of the China shipping industry, and his network will support our growth further.”

The Technology: Why Rotor Sails Matter Now

Anemoi’s patented Rotor Sails utilize the Magnus Effect to generate forward thrust, significantly reducing a vessel’s fuel consumption and its carbon, SOx, and NOx emissions. As regulations like the EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime begin to penalize high-carbon intensity, these “fuel-agnostic” wind solutions are becoming essential for shipowners regardless of whether they burn traditional fuel or new e-fuels.
